Re: Emanations and death

I agree that the antimagic field doesn't stop because of the death of the caster. I would at least give the character in the field a roll to notice magic isn't working, possibly the PC even notices...

For what it's worth, I'm pretty sure there's something in the FAQ about spells only checking targets when they're cast. For example, if something starts out as a person, then has charm person cast on...

Re: Emanations and death

Arlechino is correct, the FAQ has stated that spells check for targets upon casting, not while they're active. As Arlechino says, that allows a spell targeting people (such as Charm Person) to continue...

Re: Emanations and death

Ah, but antimagic doesn't target a creature. It is, instead, an emanation centered on "you". So the question (although irrelevant in this case because the spell only checks once), is whether your...

Starwed- are you suggesting POAing the fighter, then casting an animal-only spell on her, then turning her back, with the spell still in place? It's possible that that WOULD be overpowered (though...

Re: Emanations and death

Yah, it's an expensive technique, given that the spell setting it up, is itself 8th level. Note, too, that the fighter's losing the benefit of most/all his equipment, or that it's requiring the major...

Seems the situation has gone away form the original topic, would the field drop when the creature dies. I would say so. I don't know if its the exact reading of the text but it seems if you cast a...
